High risk pregnancy Dr Medhat Ilias is leading the care for high risk pregnancy at The Northern Hospital in Epping, Victoria. Medhat has done thousands of caesarean sections for all different indications, including risky conditions such as placenta accreta, placenta previa and obstructed labour at the second stage. He has extensive experience in managing the unexpected tricky situations, including surgical management of postpartum haemorrhage and caesarean hysterectomies. Diabetes in pregnancy Medhat also cares for women with diabetes mellitus during pregnancy – both pre-existing diabetes (Type 1 and Type 2) and gestational diabetes (diabetes that was diagnosed during pregnancy). This care is provided in a multi- disciplinary approach, working together with an endocrinologist, dietitian and diabetes educator.
